A Golden Smile
I saw someone today,
On my feed
With the same teeth she had.
I had never noticed how often I don't look into people's eyes when they speak.
I look at their teeth,
studying each one.
I look at their lips,
See the cracks and skin fold and rip as they speak.
I listen and I hear, but more often than not,
I'm studying them.
The way they move their mouth and say each word.
Catogorizing each stutter and lisp.
And I didn't realize I had memorized these faces until now.
But I find myself crying over the fact that the smile I used to know so well is gone.
Now only inhabited
by a lady
on my feed.
