Midnight Conversations

Artwork accompanying the poem Midnight Conversations

It’s been a while since I last stared at the moon,
Tracing the silver light that spills across the floor.
The world got loud, and I retreated to this room,
Locking out the chaos behind a heavy door.

Life had been so heavy recently, a weight upon my chest,
A race of shadows where the sun refused to set.
Maybe that’s why I lost track of time and failed the test
Of finding quiet moments I haven't mastered yet.

I forgot to appreciate the things that’s always there—
The steady pulse of crickets, the cool and biting air.
In the rush of being someone, in the blur of being busy,
The silence of the universe just made me feel quite dizzy.

Maybe I’d just be a moon myself, drifting through the dark,
Content to be a witness.
I wouldn't need to speak at all, or carry every care,
I’d simply hang in space, and just be happy there.
